Summer candle care tips
Warm weather changes how candles behave, so a little care goes a long way.
- Trim the wick to about 6mm (1/4 inch) before every burn. This keeps the flame steady and reduces soot, as the National Candle Association recommends.
- Burn for 2 to 4 hours at a time. Long enough for the wax to melt to the edges, which prevents tunnelling, but not so long that the jar overheats.
- Keep candles away from fans, air conditioners and open windows. Summer breezes cause uneven burning and flickering.
- Store unlit candles somewhere cool and out of direct sun. Heat can soften soy wax and fade the fragrance.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it away from children and pets.
